I wish to welcome you to the website of Oifig an Choimisinéara Teanga.
Oifig an Choimisinéara Teanga, which was established in 2004, functions as an ombudsman service and compliance agency in relation to state services through Irish.
The objective of this website is to be a source of information and assistance to those concerned with the public's language rights and the language obligations of the state system.
This website, we hope, acts as a one stop shop or central information hub in relation to all aspects of the Official Languages Acts, 2003 and 2021 and the Office of An Coimisinéir Teanga.
We provide an insight on this website into what we do and how we do it.
This website has recently been redesigned in order to ensure that the information provided is more accessible and user friendly. This “reconstruction” will continue while we build a new online portal for public bodies to report on their advertising activity.
The aim of the office of An
Coimisinéir Teanga is to provide an independent high-quality service whilst fulfilling our statutory obligations to ensure state compliance in relation to language rights.
We intend to ensure fairness for all by dealing in an efficient, professional, and impartial manner with complaints regarding difficulties in accessing public services through Irish.
I should point out that this website does not offer a comprehensive legal interpretation of the Act and the information provided here should not be regarded as legal advice.
I would like to confirm that, together with the staff of this office, I will be pleased to deal with questions or complaints in relation to language rights and obligations should you wish to contact us.
Complaints about state services through Irish may be made online, should you wish. Alternatively, complaints can be made, or further information sought by contacting us by post, fax, email, social media or telephone using our lo-call number.
Similarly, we provide advice to state organisations in relation to their language obligations under the Acts to assist them in ensuring compliance with their statutory duties.
Thank you for visiting this website and I hope that you will find it helpful and beneficial.
Séamas Ó Concheanainn
